iPadpalooza is a three-day event held at Westlake High School in Austin, TX.  This learning festival is a celebration of the cultural-shift the iPads have brought about in education and the world.  This event will focus on creativity, social collaboration, engagement and the compelling ways schools have integrated iPads into their classrooms.  This year we will also premiere our “iLead Academy” which will take place on June 17th (8:30-4:00) and is focused on helping campus and district leadership thrive in a mobile learning environment.

The festival will start on the evening of June 17th at 6:30pm (registration opens at 4:00pm) and end on June 19th and will feature amazing speakers from all over the world, lots of live music and of course, food trailers. Please note there will be limited seating to this event and the iLead Academy.

The wonders of the etch-e-sketch have given way to more impressive touchscreen technology with great potential for fine arts instruction. Teaching for Artistic Behavior is a relatively new method of art instruction that is perfectly suited for iPad integration. Using apps like eBackpack, Camera/Photos, iBooks, and Draw Free, students are provided with instruction, materials, multitudes of examples of art, self-paced exploration, progress monitoring, critique and feedback, and perhaps most importantly, inspiration.
With iPad and Wifi access students can access teacher-created Blogs that house video demonstrations of lessons, materials' use, and information on artists. iBooks delivered via eBackpack provide students with teacher-made lessons so that they can see a live demonstration in class and then choose to explore the activity at their own pace or even at a later date via an iPad. Teaching for Artistic Behavior allows for the teacher to instruct students and then set them free to explore art-making with relative independence. Art creation is something iPad Apps are only beginning to explore, but we have starter ideas for integrating Draw Free and Camera/Photos into student art. Come see where the Fine Arts are going with our kids at the helm.
