iPadpalooza 2014 has ended

iPadpalooza is a three-day event held at Westlake High School in Austin, TX.  This learning festival is a celebration of the cultural-shift the iPads have brought about in education and the world.  This event will focus on creativity, social collaboration, engagement and the compelling ways schools have integrated iPads into their classrooms.  This year we will also premiere our “iLead Academy” which will take place on June 17th (8:30-4:00) and is focused on helping campus and district leadership thrive in a mobile learning environment.

The festival will start on the evening of June 17th at 6:30pm (registration opens at 4:00pm) and end on June 19th and will feature amazing speakers from all over the world, lots of live music and of course, food trailers. Please note there will be limited seating to this event and the iLead Academy.

In this session, participants will look at before and after models of reader’s workshop and how it has evolved since the implementation of iPads. I believe this implementation has lead to accelerate learning and is making our students competitive with their peers. Want to know how to get kids running to your room ready to turn in homework? By turning homework into an engaging, motivating assignment that has a real purpose the following day, therefore allowing the students to take charge of their own learning. The beauty of technology in the classroom is the ability to go beyond differentiating for 3-4 groups and differentiate for each student. Participants will look at units my students have completed. We will walk through how the units were taught and what elements we brought in to each unit and see students’ final products and how the notes they compiled along the way served as a valuable resource for them. How has guided reading changed since iPads? Students interact with their iPads during guided reading and continue the learning as they move into their independent work. I will share the consumption apps that my students enjoy most, but their real love is the apps that allow their creativity to shine! How have we improved the home/school gap? Through digital office hours via numerous platforms. I will share several so participants can find what works best for them. Participants will walk away with an example of each of these elements created by themselves. I will also show examples from my classroom.
